A transplant from Toronto, Ontario by way of Detroit, MI, Pete DeVriese cut his teeth playing in rock bands throughout his high school and college years in the local Phoenix, AZ music scene, developing his unique pop sensibilities and honing his songwriting craft. His influences run the musical gamut, from Bjork and Beck to Electric Light Orchestra and The Talking Heads to Charles Ives and Dmitri Shostakovich.
After studying music at Arizona State University, he headed west to southern California, where he wrote underscore for various films and shorts for Fox, MGM, Warner Bros. and independent filmmakers. His work has been broadcast around the world and domestically on HBO, Cinemax, Showtime and TBS. In 2004, his music was featured in the critically-acclaimed documentary, Moog (Plexifilm) and on the corresponding soundtrack (Hollywood Records).
Pete's scoring and pop work while living in California led to talks with Atlantic and Hollywood Records. His meetings and contact with executives ultimately reinforced his truly independent, DIY ethos, which extends all the way to modifying microphones and building his own guitars. In 2008 he joined Tangram 7s, an independent artist-run record label.
His music has been described as “witty” and “playful and fascinatingly unpredictable” (Heather Phares, All Music Guide), and his 2008 debut release for Tangram 7s, entitled "When", is no exception.
Plans for 2008 include touring in support of the new record and recording new tunes late in the year. All songs are available for immediate licensing. Mechanical, synch and master rights are artist-owned, making the clearance process quick and easy.
